February 2020 - UT Bridge Makers

On Tuesday, February 4th, UTeach Makers paired up with students from UT's College of Fine Arts (COFA) for our first cohort meeting of Spring 2020. The focus of the event was UT Bridge Makers, a joint student-driven CNS and COFA initiative that aims to demonstrate the value of collaborative making as multidisciplinary teams design and build an interactive exhibit to be unveiled at Explore UT in March of 2020.

December 2019- Maker Showcase Presentations

On Tuesday, December 3rd, UTeach Makers participated in our final cohort meeting of Fall 2019. It was great to get everyone together to celebrate the accomplishments of Phillips, Niaz, and Derek as well as to welcome a new batch of future teachers who will be joining UTeach Maker this spring.

November 2019- Maker Flip Hunt

On Tuesday, November 5th, UTeach Makers participated in our third cohort meeting where they learned how to use Flip Grid in a maker context. A special thank you to master teacher Kelli Allen and Maker Fellows Maisha Rumman and Krystal Evans for running this event.

October 2019- Designing a Makerspace Classroom

On Tuesday, October 8th, UTeach Makers participated in our second cohort meeting of Fall 2019.The cohort meeting was lead by UTeach Maker Teaching Fellow, Kira Lowery, and current UTeach Maker, Phllips Adebayo. The two innovative educators demonstrated how to set up and use a classroom makerspace.

September 2019 - Escape Room Boxes

On Tuesday, September 3rd, UTeach Maker hosted this first cohort meeting of the Fall semester. It was great to see everybody back and hear their stories about what they had created over the summer. With over 30 makers and 6 mentors in attendance, Painter Hall was buzzing with excitement! The evening kicked-off with dinner and conversations, providing everybody with an opportunity to catch-up after the summer break.

May 2019 - Maker Showcase Presentations

May 7, 2019

On Tuesday, May 7th, UTeach Maker had their monthly cohort meeting and Spring 2019 Maker Showcases. The evening kicked off with a maker playground, where participants in UTeach Maker and their mentors shared projects they have been working on. Lauren from MathHappens shared her laser-cut math manipulatives, including a new elastic Cartesian plane that folds to become a parabola. Caroline shared a dress that she sewed, plus Jean and Juliet let other play with their creation that allows students to visualize sine waves through pulleys, string, with a radian unit circle.

April 2019 - Cardboard Concepts Team Challenge

On Tuesday, April 2nd, UTeach Maker held our monthly cohort meeting in Painter Hall. The evening started with a Taco Tuesday dinner where UTeach Makers and Mentors has an opportunity to catch-up on recent developments and share about their experiences. The theme of the evening was cardboard and STEM. J. E. Johnson from Texas Performing Arts gave a demonstration of some student-friendly tools for cutting and shaping cardboard, such as the Dremel Moto-saw.

March 2019 - SxSW EDU Austin Maker Meet Up

March 5, 2019

On Tuesday, March 5th, UTeach Maker held our monthly cohort meeting at co.lab, a community makerspace in Austin that is focused on inclusion and diversity. This meeting served as a precursor to an unoffical SXSW Maker Ed meet-up that was attended by makers from around the United States. The evening kicked off with Texas style BBQ and a chance for UTeach Makers and Mentors to share their making activities with each other.

February 2019 - Foundry Tour / Find Someone Who

Welcome back UTeach Makers! On Tuesday, February 5th, we welcomed our Spring 2019 cohort of UTeach Makers. We had over 38 attendees which included our current cohort of Makers, Mentors, and returning UTeach Maker Fellows. In addition, we welcomed our newest UTeach Maker Mentor, Natalie Freed, who has a background in computer science and an interest in the mathematics behind stitching patterns.

December 2018 - Maker Showcase Presentations with C3 Summit Guests

On Tuesday, December 4th, UTeach Maker was proud to showcase the work of three new UTeach Maker Fellows at our Fall 2018 Maker Showcase. Members from the UTeach Maker Consortium, made up of representatives from Boise State University, University of Houston, and West Virginia University, along with Stephanie Chang and Jakki Spicer from the Maker Ed Initiative were in attendance for the event.
