UTeach Maker - STEM FOR ALL Video Showcase

As an instructional approach, making can harness the processes of fabrication to promote specific learning outcomes. To support this innovative teaching practice, Noyce recipients at the University of Texas UTeach program (Award #1557155) can participate in UTeach Maker, a micro-credentialing program that helps preservice STEM teachers bring maker-centered instruction into learning environments.

11-18-2018 Picture 1On Sunday November 18th, Eric Schneider, founder and CEO of was back for the second part of the create your own printed circuit-board (PCB) workshop. After the first workshop, UTeach Makers uploaded their PCB designs that were created in Over the past month Eric and his crew reviewed the designs for errors and milled them on their Bantam Tools desktop PCB milling machine.

10-21-2018 Picture 1On Sunday October 21st, Eric Schneider, founder and CEO of was in-house to teach how to create printed circuitboards (PCBs). This workshop took making with electronics to the next level by introducing the software and skills needed to make a custom circuitboard with LEDs that blink and fade. Eric provided numerous examples of circuitboard that could be worn as badges or pins, such as french fries with yellow LEDs or a light-up Christmas tree.

Cohort Meeting - 01-31-2017 - Photo 1On Tuesday 1/31/2017 UTeach Makers and mentors got together to visit the Ann Richards Makerspace. Mentors Patrick Benfield and Oren Connell led the night. UTeach Makers learned new skills through competing in the "Six Inch Chop Saw Challenge" and we discussed how to use tools safely with students. Current UTeach Makers also presented some of their recent work and displayed their Maker Showcases. And, there was plenty of yummy food, of course.

Cohort Meeting - 11-17-2016 - Photo 2On Thursday 11/17/2016 UTeach Makers and mentors had the opportunity to visit the Foundry at the UTexas Fine Arts Library. Everybody had an opportunity to see examples of 3D printed objects and learn a little about thee different techniques used in additive and subtractive digital fabrication.

Card Sorting Photo 01UTeach Maker officially kicked-off with the first cohort of students on Thursday 10/27/2016 with all our UTeach Maker, mentors, and advisors in attendance. As a kick-off activity, we learned a little about everybody and their background in making and being creative. Patrick Benfield introduced the group to a card sorting activity to help think about the different tools, techniques, and philosophies behind making.
