Tuesday, May 10th was the date of our last Spring 2022 Maker Meeting. Everybody presented their semester-long project geared towards assisting Austin Pets Alive. We also had our first maker showcase presentation since the pandemic happened.

Tuesday, April 12th was our third Spring 2022 Maker Meeting. The semester is starting to wrap up, but everyone was more than happy to be at the meeting and take a break from their studies to work on some maker projects.

Tuesday, March 8th was the date of our second Spring 2022 Maker Meeting. We held our entire meeting over Zoom to ensure that all of our makers could attend. We spent most of the meeting letting the groups talk and discuss what their semester project could be.

On Friday, February 25th, UTeach Maker partnered with The Foundry Maker Space to host a session on using embroidery machines. The workshop allowed makers to put their names on an apron and add any small designs.

Tuesday, February 8th was the date of our first Spring 2022 Maker Meeting. We had some new faces show up and others join us over Zoom. We know some of our makers are busy in other places so we made the meeting hybrid. We also had a representative from Austin Pets Alive join us to talk about their program.

May 2019 - UTeach Make For All Meet-Up

05-20-2019 Picture 1On Monday, May 20th, UTeach Maker hosted a Make For All meet-up to kick-off their commitment to the Make For All initiative. There were over 40 participants representing over 20 universities from UTeach replication sites. The evening began with a showcase of making that has been taking place at UT-Austin and from members of the Austin maker community. Participants had a chance to see student projects from the Step 1 final maker project and create their own UTeach Make For All button.

March 2019 - SxSW EDU Austin Maker Meet Up

02-05-2019 Picture 1On Tuesday, March 5th, UTeach Maker held our monthly cohort meeting at co.lab, a community makerspace in Austin that is focused on inclusion and diversity. This meeting served as a precursor to an unoffical SXSW Maker Ed meet-up that was attended by makers from around the United States. The evening kicked off with Texas style BBQ and a chance for UTeach Makers and Mentors to share their making activities with each other.

11-18-2018 Picture 1On Sunday November 18th, Eric Schneider, founder and CEO of PATCHR.io was back for the second part of the create your own printed circuit-board (PCB) workshop. After the first workshop, UTeach Makers uploaded their PCB designs that were created in PATCHR.io. Over the past month Eric and his crew reviewed the designs for errors and milled them on their Bantam Tools desktop PCB milling machine.

10-21-2018 Picture 1On Sunday October 21st, Eric Schneider, founder and CEO of PATCHR.io was in-house to teach how to create printed circuitboards (PCBs). This workshop took making with electronics to the next level by introducing the software and skills needed to make a custom circuitboard with LEDs that blink and fade. Eric provided numerous examples of circuitboard that could be worn as badges or pins, such as french fries with yellow LEDs or a light-up Christmas tree.

March 2018 - SXSW MakerEd.Org Meet-Up

03-06-2018 Picture 2On Tuesday, March 6th, 2018 Austin was a buzz with the national maker community, as MakerEd.org held their annual meet-up for SXSWEdu. The event was organized by Stephanie Chang from MakerEd.org, who also serves as a portfolio reviewer for UTeach Maker, and hosted at Magellan International School by UTeach Maker Mentor Patrick Benfield. With over 100 local and national maker educators in attendance, the presence of UTeach Maker could easily be spotted as our cohort proudly wore their burnt orange shirts.
