Throughout November, UTeach Maker will host a variety of open events so that you can see what Maker is all about and ask questions of students who are currently in the program. Please see the attached PDF for more information about "Try Out Maker" month.

On Sunday, September 15th, UTeach Maker partnered with SEU to host this first weekend workshop of the Fall semester. Thanks to gracious funding from the Powell Foundation students from St. Edwards and UT Austin had the chance to build and create together. The workshop started with dinner and conversations, providing students from the different programs time to get to know each other. In addition, students participated in a community circle to share their backgrounds.

On Monday, May 20th, UTeach Maker hosted a Make For All meet-up to kick-off their commitment to the Make For All initiative. There were over 40 participants representing over 20 universities from UTeach replication sites. The evening began with a showcase of making that has been taking place at UT-Austin and from members of the Austin maker community. Participants had a chance to see student projects from the Step 1 final maker project and create their own UTeach Make For All button.

Making’ brings ideas to life through the acts of designing, inventing, and building something personally meaningful. As an instructional approach, making can harness the processes of fabrication to promote specific learning outcomes. To support this innovative teaching practice, Noyce recipients at the University of Texas UTeach program (Award #1557155) can participate in UTeach Maker, a micro-credentialing program that helps preservice STEM teachers bring maker-centered instruction into learning environments.

On Tuesday, March 5th, UTeach Maker held our monthly cohort meeting at co.lab, a community makerspace in Austin that is focused on inclusion and diversity. This meeting served as a precursor to an unoffical SXSW Maker Ed meet-up that was attended by makers from around the United States. The evening kicked off with Texas style BBQ and a chance for UTeach Makers and Mentors to share their making activities with each other.

On Tuesday, March 6th, 2018 Austin was a buzz with the national maker community, as MakerEd.org held their annual meet-up for SXSWEdu. The event was organized by Stephanie Chang from MakerEd.org, who also serves as a portfolio reviewer for UTeach Maker, and hosted at Magellan International School by UTeach Maker Mentor Patrick Benfield. With over 100 local and national maker educators in attendance, the presence of UTeach Maker could easily be spotted as our cohort proudly wore their burnt orange shirts.
